Biography
Payam holds a PhD in Construction Engineering (Excellent Cum Laude, 2022) from UPC-BarcelonaTECH. With over eight years of research experience across Europe and an h-index of 11+, he has established a strong track record in advancing low-carbon solutions and bridging the gap between academic research and industrial practice.
Before joining the University of Birmingham, he was a KTP Research Associate at Aston University, a Postdoctoral Researcher at UPC, and a Visiting Researcher at the University of Naples Parthenope. He is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA, 2025) and a member of several professional bodies, including the Institute of Concrete Technology (AMICT, 2024), the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining (MIMMM, 2024), and RILEM (since 2022).
His work has been recognised through multiple awards, including the Special Doctoral Award (UPC-BarcelonaTECH, 2024) and the Surendra P. Shah Award at the Young Researchers’ Symposium (IIT Madras, India, 2023). He also contributes to the academic community as a peer reviewer and guest editor.
Research interests
Payam is a Research Fellow in the School of Engineering at the University of Birmingham, working on the development of low-carbon cementitious materials. His expertise lies in sustainable construction materials, fiber- and textile-reinforced cementitious composites, sustainability assessment, and applications in the circular economy.
