Biography
As an academic staff member in the School of Engineering at the University of Birmingham, Dr Nan Chen has been lecturing on three power system-related Master-level modules, coordinating the 2nd year research project for the two-year MSc Electrical Power Systems with Advanced Research programme, and supervising undergraduate and postgraduate projects. He received research grants from several funding sources. He co-chaired Birmingham Decarbonisation Summer School in 2023 and 2024 with the topic of Energy Transition towards Net Zero. His research interests include HVDC modelling and control, with 10 international journal articles published including 6 IEEE journal articles. Dr Nan Chen has 5-year working experience as an engineer with several patents issued. He has been actively engaged with professional organisations, currently serving as the Vice Chair of the IEEE Power and Energy Society (PES) UK & Ireland Chapter, Vice Chair of CIGRE UK Next Generation Network (NGN), Chair of CIGRE UK NGN UoB Hub, and member of CIGRE B4.95 Working Group. He has been a reviewer for several high-quality international journals.
