PhD projects

Mark Simmons’s research interests span the safe processing of complex liquid foods, reaction engineering of enantioselective reactions, novel biocatalysts, jetting and coating flows, processing of multiphase liquids, catalyst structuring, flow visualisation and mixing and engineered biofilms.

Dr Simmons can offer supervision in all his areas of research, which is carried out under the following multidisciplinary themes:

Chemistry and chemical engineering (for example, the use of novel non-petroleum-based feedstocks to make useful organic intermediates)
Chemical engineering and applied mathematics (including the development of in vivo fluid mechanical models of drug delivery to the colon and in vitro testing methods)
Chemical engineering and industry (including the use of advanced flow diagnostics and other instrumentation to interrogate complex multiphase mixing and reaction processes; and the development of general design rules scaling up microstructured product manufacture from the laboratory to the full-scale plant)
