KK Cheng's research focuses on the epidemiology of common cancers, cardiovascular diseases and chronic obstructive pulmonary diseases. He is involved in the following research programmes:

Bladder Cancer Prognosis Programme
Guangzhou Biobank Cohort Study
Obesity prevention in primary school-age children (supported by a National Coordinating Centre for Health Technology Assessment grant of £2.6 million)
COPD in primary care: from case-finding to improving patient outcomes - a National Institute for Health Research Programme (c.£1.9 million)
A trial on a polypill in Iran
Born In Guangzhou Cohort Study (a new birth cohort that has just been funded in Guangzhou)
