Biography
Dr. Deepankara V., Marie Curie Fellow and Royal Society-endorsed Exceptional Promise researcher, specializes in the interdependence of radiation-matter interactions and plasma-structure interactions in nuclear fusion reactors, with particular expertise in how plasma disruptions affect radiation damage mechanisms in first-wall structures. His research investigates the coupled effects of plasma conditions and radiation exposure on first-wall structure behavior under extreme fusion-relevant environments. Deepankara is developing multi-physics computational frameworks that combine machine learning algorithms with high-fidelity neutron transport simulations, atomic-scale modeling, and experimental validation to predict first-wall structure response during plasma transients and disruption events. His work addresses critical plasma-induced effects including surface erosion, thermal loading, and the dependency of radiation-driven structural changes on plasma state variations, contributing to enhanced component longevity and reactor operational stability.Deepankara's multidisciplinary approach integrates nuclear physics, computational modeling, and structural characterization to advance fundamental understanding of how plasma disruptions modulate radiation damage processes and optimize structure selection for next-generation fusion energy systems. His current research focuses on radiation-plasma coupling effects, disruption-enhanced structural degradation, and the development of predictive models for fusion reactor component design under transient plasma conditions.
