Biography
Hello, I am a current PhD Musicology student at the University of Birmingham. Besides studying music, I spend my free time physically immersed in popular music culture by attending live performances and performing in bands playing electric guitar/bass. I also enjoy gaming and reading.
Research interests
I am predominately interested in 20th-century popular music studies, cultural studies and critical/analytical theory. My previous research has been based on British/European/American events/artists such as:
- Linking British Punk artist The Damned with the Frankfurt School and Bourdieu
- Music festivals and online live-streaming platforms
- MA dissertation, which examined whether British popular music contributed to nuclear fear in the 1980s.
- Ongoing PhD thesis research which examines whether there is more between the relationship of Industrialisation, Standardisation and the Rise of 90s U.S. Industrial music including affect theory, Fordism/Taylorism and drawing from various philosophers such as Marx, Adorno, and Foucault.
