Personal profile

Research interests

I am an Assistant Professor in Digital Media and Communications at the University of Birmingham. I specialise in interdisciplinary global comparative research on the epistemologies of digital journalism, peripheral media actors, alternative and community media, and innovative approaches to media practice.

My research focuses on knowledge production in digital journalism and participatory media practices around the world. I am particularly interested in the ways journalists and publics encode and decode meaning, the relational dynamics between journalists and audiences in knowledge production, and how these dynamics affect trust, reception, engagement, public deliberation, and democracy.
