Once upon a time in Birmingham: women who dared to dream

Birmingham City Council launched a book to celebrate 100 years since the first women were given the vote. A twitter campaign was run to gain public nominations from past and present and over 130 nominations were made. A panel of young female writers from Spark Writers chose the final 30 women to be included in the book, according to who they thought would be inspirations for current and future generations of women. Sara Jabbari has been included in the final book. “Household” names in in the book include Malala Yousafzai (Nobel Prize for Peace winner), Denise Lewis (Olympic gold medallist in the heptathlon), Shabana Mahmood (first female MP in Birmingham), Dame Ellen Pinsent (first female councillor for Birmingham).
