Description
The Privatisation of Biodiversity? The conference aims to explore new approaches that might be used as alternatives to “command-and-control” regulation to promote the conservation of biodiversity. In particular, the focus will be on Payment for Ecosystem Services and Biodiversity Off-Setting. The aim is to consider the topic from the perspective of different stakeholder groups, noting the benefits and dangers in the use of such mechanisms, and also the significant issues that must be addressed before they can be successfully applied. The conference is part of a two year research project at the University of Dundee, funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council, entitled “The Privatisation of Biodiversity? - New Approaches to Nature Conservation in the United Kingdom.”
