Description
Presented with the unique opportunity of working with teachers in Malaysia who are working with underserved communities, this workshop reports on some of our findings from data collected during the first year of a novel approach to teacher education. In a world where people are increasingly being geographically displaced, we hope this workshop will offer insights for those who are working, or looking to work, in the development of teacher education beyond England. This workshop will consider the context of working with displaced communities and the role teacher education has in supporting children and young people to improve their life chances. Working with a network of schools in Malaysia our immediate focus has been on developing our understanding of our students who are all working as teachers in educational settings. As such, the research has focused on the two questions: what does it mean to be a teacher and what does it means to be a learner? Doing so, we look to theories of assemblage and subjectivity to help us understand the processes which inform the possibilities available in answer to those questions. In this workshop we will share some of our rudimentary data and look forward to hearing your thoughts.
