Description
In this presentation Prof Michael Northcott (U of Edinburgh) and Dr. Jeremy Kidwell (U of Birmingham) present findings from an extensive three-year research project (2013-2016) into Scotland’s network of 350+ communities engaged in environmental education and behavioural change, “Eco-Congregation Scotland”. Our research included sixty in depth interviews and national-level geospatial demographic analysis. In this presentation we will share a fast-paced survey of our findings. In particular, we will share ways that community action in religious third sector groups is different from secular groups and highlight some of the ways that these groups pioneer change and create sustainable cultures in their local communities and on a national level in Scotland. This is the first major study to date on this unique and under-researched subset of community action on climate change in Scotland.
