Posthuman Listener in Postnatural Ecology: a synthesis of space

  • Erik Nystrom (Presenter)

Activity: Academic and Industrial eventsConference, workshop or symposium

Description

The complex of synthesis, algorithms, and performance in computer music can present a form of ecology where sonic embodiment becomes a potential nature of technology. Such an aesthetic proposal reflects the posthuman conditions of our time, and must not discriminate electroacoustic sounds on the assumption that they have origins prior to technological mediation. This talk presents some examples of how such an attitude can inform approaches to space in composition and performance, discussing texture synthesis and the use of machine learning models to group and organise textons, distributing perception and agency between phenomenon and information.
