People and Pages: a showcase of local and regional poets

Description

Putting into action Frank O'Hara's suggestion that poetry should be between people, not pages, this evening's event is a celebration of the spontaneity of the spoken voice and the power of performance. This event has been organised with the Centre for Contemporary Literature and Culture, and the Birmingham and Midland Institute.

Featuring live performances of original poetry, curated by Dr Rachel Sykes and Dr Rona Cran
•Nyanda Foday, Birmingham Young Poet Laureate.
•Andrew Taylor is a Nottingham based poet and lecturer. He co-edits erbacce, erbacce-press and M58 and teaches English and Creative Writing at Nottingham Trent University.
•Becky Cullen is a PhD student at Nottingham Trent University, researching poetry, time and temporality. Her poems have also appeared in The North, The Interpreter’s House and New Walk.
•Vidyan Ravinthiran is co-editor of Prac Crit, an online magazine, and author of Elizabeth Bishop’s Prosaic (Bucknell University Press, 2015) and Grun-tu-molani (Bloodaxe Books, 2014). He teaches at the University of Birmingham.

•There will also be a piano recital by award-winning Royal Birmingham Conservatoire student Domonkos Csabay.
