This lecture offer ways into thinking about the nature of ‘diplomatic’ space - indeed, is this space constructed as ‘diplomatic’ merely be the identification of the individuals as presbeis ('envoys')? - it also reveals something about the nature of the representation of diplomacy within the framework of Roman imperial power and ‘diplomatic’ responses to it.
