Levelling Up Physics - Online tutorials for 6th form students from disadvantaged backgrounds in physics

Activity: Academic and Industrial eventsConference, workshop or symposium

Description

Levelling Up Physics is a long-term outreach project run by several universities in the UK that supports 6th form students from less represented and less advantaged backgrounds to access higher education programmes in physics through the provision of free online tutorials run by current UG and PG students. Tutorials are based around A level physics curriculum areas with focus on problem solving, developing the curiosity of participants for their subject area and facilitating near peer mentoring with university application. We describe the programme and present evidence of impact form participants and tutors and also reflect on our own learning about running this long-term, sustained STEM outreach programme over several years.
