Discussion with UoB students and presentation of project process, methodology and findings

Activity: Academic and Industrial eventsOther

Description

With this professional development and dissemination dialogue with students and staff at the University of Birmingham, the idea was to explain the entirety of the project, the challenges, the research products and some initial findings from early dissemination trips done the month before. The dialogue implied a discussion about the professional profile and work history of each of the team members as well as discussions about the ethical, methodological and practical challenges of doing mental health work in the Colombian Pacific region.

The space permitted dialogue, feedback and interesting questions from staff who work around mental health issues, development and conflict themes. The discussions about ethics and practicalities of research allowed for in depth discussions about positionality, risks, difficulties and possibilities of research in conflict regions.

The idea was to start hearing the participants' comments and views on the entirety of the project, as a way to critically reflect on what had been done at that point and on the work that lied ahead (participatory tool testing and dissemination opportunities). The event took place on June 4th, 202. This was a space for sharing and networking with other staff members at the Mental Health Institute and the International Development Department.

We took some of the questions and feedback to plan our posterior trips to the 3 main research sites as well as improve the mapping tool.
