Description
CoramBAAF Worksop: This session outlined recent findings that outline the particular and significant needs for LGBTQ+ people when linked to social care. Lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer or questioning (LGBTQ+) young people are overrepresented in the social care system. But our understanding about their experience has significant gaps. We undertook a scoping review of international literature and interviewed 20 LGBTQ+ young people who had been in residential care; each of these studies was collaboratively undertaken with the contribution of LGBTQ+ young people with experience of social care. From these studies, we developed a model explaining their challenges and recommendations for improving practice. We will outline their particular needs as well as exploring how to improve social care to develop more inclusive services.Period | 12 Mar 2024 |
