'A New Mecca'

Activity: Engagement and Public eventsEngagement event

Description

In collaboration with the Wales for Peace project, the Welsh Centre for International Affairs and the arts organisation Gentle/Radical, I co-organised a one-off reinterpretation of the Temple’s 1938 opening ceremony. Combining spoken word, film and sung sketches composed by Helen Chadwick, the event featured around 50 performers, including artists, historians and a community choir. The sold-out event was attended by 230 people and attracted local media attention from the BBC/S4C, Wales Online and The Cardiffian. It was supported by the Being Human Festival (£2,000) and match-funding from the Heritage-Lottery funded Wales for Peace and the Arts Council of Wales.
